Wheelie Bin Thefts
Its coming around to that time of year again when we all have to endure the every increasing amount of fireworks being set off at all hours of day & night and the air full of smoke !!
What we weren't expecting last year was the new trend of stealing wheelie bins and setting them alight for fun !!
We were receiving reports of bin thefts on a daily basis last year and this continued until late November. The cost of a new wheelie bin is £32.00 which is payable by the customer and not the landlord. Bins have to be purchased directly from Veolia by the customer before delivery but re cycling bins can be obtained free of charge.
Along with rising food bills and a 10% increase in energy prices from October this is an additional charge I'm sure you could all do without.
As a pro active measure last year we supplied industrial sized metal Biffa bins around Castlebeck Avenue and Normancroft flats but this unfortunately wasn't an option for individual properties.
To prepare for the possible repeat of thefts this year i would recommend the following tips,
- Do not leave your bin out overnight for the collection.
- Ensure you collect your bin from the street once emptied.
- If you have CCTV ensure your bin is within range of the camera.
- Purchase a simple bike lock and secure to a wall or fence.
Bike locks can be purchased from all major DIY store and online from Amazon. Prices range from under £4.00 - £10.00 for a heavy duty lock.
To avoid this happening
